Beginner adventure racing, adventure racing, workout plan for adventurer racing, beginner adventure racing advice

Where does the beginner adventure racing start out, what work out plan for adventure racing should I use. What adventure racing gear is needed, what will race day be like, these are some of the questions answered by Beginner adventure racing advice.

Some racers have come from a tri-athelon background and for them the conversion is easy, it’s just a matter of replacing swimming with kayak or canoeing.

A work out plan for adventure racing will need to be scheduled for six to eight weeks prior to the event putting in training on the three basic disciplines, running, mountain biking and kayaking. A lot of beginner adventure racing omit training in Kayaking and canoeing. Most times kayaks or canoes are supplied by race organiser,

Running and Mountain biking should be practised on trails gravel roads and single tracks, starting off with 30 minute sessions and building to 90 minutes remembering to put in some varied countryside and hills if possible.

Navigation is another area which is overlooked; if you have an orienteering club near you it is well worth joining then you can practice your running and navigation at the same time.

A beginner adventure racing does not need special clothes to start with a race vest and shorts or leggings will do fine for the first few races, together with a running shoe or cross trainer which are the most suitable footwear for both for the running and mountain biking sections. You will also need a hydro-pack or bottle carriers for water and snacks such as energy bars or gels. Compass and map holder.

The biggest expense will be a mountain bike, although any bike can be used the most popular one is a hardtail that has front suspension. Remember also to have a toolkit with patches and gas inflator together with spare tubes.

You will also need to put together a small first aid kit, with plasters, steristrips, antiseptics, scissors, tweezers and don’t forget you will need Vaseline or Bodyglide to help prevent saddle sores and the like.

Beginner adventure racing involves passing through a number of check points or control points, at these points the beginner adventure racer will need to either clip a race card or have their time recorded in a passport. Care must be taken not to lose the card or passport as it is the only way of proving you have followed the correct course. Except in Score races where competitors a given a set time to reach as many check points as possible it is important to move through the checkpoints in the correct order.

What type of race should a beginner adventure racing enter, the sprint race lasting a few hours or a longer race up to 24 hours. Many people assume the sprint race is the easiest, however the truth lies in the name a sprint is usually fast paced, so if you walk or jog you will be in trouble, if you have a background of running this is a fine starting point.

The longer the race the slower the pace for the beginner adventure racing and the slower pace allows one to take in and enjoy the great outdoors which is a big part of what beginner adventure racing is about, meeting people and discovering new places whilst learning about oneself.

On the day of the race remember to drink plenty of water to fully hydrate your body and get to the race area as early as possible. As soon as you can track down the registration area and get the formalities out of the way. Recheck the start time and then go to the starting area and check out the lay of the land.,

Competitors will start to gather in the starting area to pick prime positions. Once you have done your final checks, Sort out where you will start. I always suggest picking an area at the side, so you do not get overrun in the melee that usually develops. Try to get a clean start but keep to your own pace, if you have plan stick with it

The field spreads out quite quickly after the gun and within fifteen minutes virtually everyone is settled into their racing pace, now is the time to take your first sip of water (you should be drinking every 15 minutes) and take a look around you. Althuogh you should be racing your own race it’s nice to have company

Some races have courses laid out with marshals, markers and tapes to keep you on the course, others require you to navigate with compass and instructions from point to point. In the latter races you may benefit from being with someone else, however be wary of blindly following the person or team in front they might be lost.

Transitions are where the beginner adventure racing changes from one discipline to another. This is where time can be lost or gained; more often than not this is where the beginner adventure racing loses out. Approaching the transition is where the beginner adventure racing should be mentally rehearsing what they will do, perhaps change socks, replenish water bottles and restock gel or food bars. The least you do the quicker the changeover will be, however is you are developing a hotspot or blister you should deal with it before continuing.

Once away from transition it’s about getting back into the racing rhythm and finding the next checkpoint. and the next transition area until you arrive at the finish line tired and dishevelled and perhaps collapse in a heap saying you will never do it again.

When you reflect on Beginner adventure racing, you can look back in pride having taken on nature, the course designer and challenged yourself and won, yes that’s right everyone is a winner. Rather than sitting in an armchair watch others, you have gone out and done it yourself, and gained some healthy exercise at the same time.

At last you’ve retired. It’s now time to relax and experience a slower pace of life. Even enjoy spot of gardening. But not all of today’s modern over 65’s have heard the message! Retirement is taking a new twist.

Less of the slower pace of life and substitute jetting around the world! International travel for the retired is here and booming!

It’s all the result of a increased sense of adventure and willingness to experiment, combined with more money in the pocket. Cheaper air tickets have also helped! Even cruises, once the territory of the seriously rich and famous, have become affordable. An escape to Antigua and a fortnight in the Canaries or a weekend in Stockholm are now firmly on the over 65’s travelling schedule.

Then a fly sticks in the ointment. Finding economical travel insurance when you’re over 65 is not easy. Insurance companies recognise that people have healthier lives and are living longer, and in recognition the insurers are offering far more products for the older market. But with travel insurance, the over 65’s are still faced with exorbitant premiums.

Premiums rocket as you get older and if you’re looking for an annual policy for an extended holiday or a series of holidays, the problem becomes finding a policy at all rather than simply finding the cheapest price.

The dilemma revolves around the costs of medical claims experienced by the insurers. Over 65’s are much more liable to make a medical claim and the claim size is well above average too. Against this, older travellers reportedly lose less luggage – but these savings are counter-balanced by the fact their belongings are liable to be worth more.

The result is that even if you are fit, the lowest priced annual policy for the over 65’s could cost £1,000 per person ? that could be more than the cost of the holiday itself. Faced with these charges, the solution is to buy a separate policy for each trip. But even with a good medical history, the cost of insuring a 3-week holiday in the South of France starts around £65, and rises enormously for destinations in America and further a-field.

What’s the solution? You’re recommended to shop around. Your travel agent may offer a quotation but don’t snap his hand off until you’ve got competitive prices. You’ll almost certainly find a much cheaper alternative through surfing the Internet and buying online.

But don’t make your final decision simply on the basis of cost. Always examine the small print. Some travel policies will insure you for up to 21 days, others up to 31 days or 45 days. Some policies will only cover you if you’re staying in booked accommodation rather than staying with friends or relatives. No good for visiting family in New South Wales! Then you need to ensure that you’ve got adequate cover for medical and hospital expenses and don’t spare the horses ? think of a high figure and triple it! You’ll be amazed how expensive quality medical attention can be whilst you’re abroad. Incidentally, it’s important that your insurer will fly you home to the UK if your medical condition demands. And don’t overlook comparing the excesses you have to pay per claim. Finally, check that the policy pays medical costs direct to the hospital rather than you paying first and having to reclaim.

And now comes the really good bit ? jet off and ENJOY yourself!
No matter how much effort you have put into planning your vacation and taking all necessary precautions, you can never predict what will be in store during the trip. Severe illness, accident, robbery, natural disaster etc. may happen unexpectedly and spoil the fun of your long awaited vacation. Above all your hard earned money will all be wasted due to these unforeseen situations. But comprehensive travel insurance will help you to deal with these difficult situations abroad without using up a chunk of your money.

Below are some of the major types of travel insurance available that you can choose from to fit your needs.

Single Trip Travel Insurance

If you are not a frequent traveler, this insurance is ideal for you as it provides coverage for a specific trip.

Annual Travel Insurance or Multi-Trip Travel Insurance

If you generally take more than one trip per year, the most convenient and cost effective solution is the annual travel insurance. This insurance will provide coverage for multiple trips all through the year. While this travel insurance policy covers unlimited holidays, other policies may cover only a specific trip length spanning over 21, 30 or 45 days.

Family Travel Insurance

If you are traveling with quite a large group of people including for example your wife and children as well as your parents, you should opt for family travel insurance. The greatest advantage of this policy is that it covers all the members as a whole and you do not have to buy separate policies for each member. The family travel policies come with different types of premium. Some policies set their premium amount according to the number of children in the family or other factors such as whether the family is a single parent family etc. Then there are other types of family policies that charge you a premium at a flat rate without taking into consideration the number of children or other factors. If your family is quite big, you should opt for the second type of family travel insurance.

Business Travel Insurance

Business travel insurance is a type of multiple travel insurance based on the assumption that you travel a number of times all through the year as part of your job. This insurance is tailored according to the needs of the typical business traveler. A unique feature of the business travel insurance includes colleague replacement coverage that allows the company to replace another employee in your place in case you cannot make the trip due to any emergency.

Shop around on the internet to get the best travel insurance quotes, and purchase a policy that suits your particular needs. But never forget to go through the terms and conditions in details to know what is covered and what is excluded by the travel insurance policy.
Unusual Places To Tee Up The Next Time You Travel

Article Body:
Golf–it’s been called the ultimate travelers’ sport. More than 17 million people hit the links while they are away on vacation or a business trip. While Arizona, Hawaii and California are typically known for their expansive, breathtaking greens, there are many top-rated courses that can be found in the most unexpected of places.

According to travel expert and Travel Channel host Tracy Gallagher, “It’s all in the research. Before taking a trip-whether traveling on a family vacation, for a weekend getaway or on business–a great nearby golf course can easily be found with a little advance planning.”

So why not hit the links the next time you hit the road? Some of Gallagher’s favorite U.S. golfing destinations may surprise you.

• Albuquerque, N.M.-With spectacular scenery and desert climate, Albuquerque is a superb place to golf. In fact, over the past few years, developers have capitalized on the area’s beauty and, as a result, many new courses have opened throughout the city.

• Washington, D.C.-For a stroke of something different, try golfing in our nation’s capital. One wouldn’t think there would be room for a golf course in the immediate 68-square-mile area of Washington, D.C.; however, the proximity of some of the courses to the downtown area makes golfing an easy addition to a sightseeing trip. In fact, you can even see many of the historic monuments from several of the nearby fairways.

• Portland, Ore.-The Pacific Northwest certainly doesn’t have typical golfing weather, but the frequent showers give the golf greens a shade of emerald you won’t find anywhere else. If Oregon is on your travel itinerary, be sure to check out the courses in the Portland area.

Whether heading to the West Coast, Midwest, Deep South or the Eastern Seaboard, keep the following in mind as you plan your next trip:

• Check with local courses–many offer a special family package rate.

• For a more affordable golfing experience, check prices for playing at “twilight.”

• If you can’t get a tee time at one of the courses near your destination, many of the locations have driving ranges so you can at least practice your swing.

• Look for hotels, such as the Hilton Garden Inn, that offer a golf package. “Golf Amenity #18″ is the largest golf promotion available at Hilton Garden Inn hotels throughout North America, which offers guests whose stay includes a Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday night, from June 1-Oct. 22, 2006, a complimentary green fees voucher (good for two people) that’s valid at more than 330 golf courses in the U.S. and Canada. Guests also receive a complimentary golf tips booklet, written by Golf Digest instructors, filled with pointers to improve your game. It’s a one-of-a-kind deal that travelers-both business and leisure-can take advantage of this summer.
Article Body:
Travel Nursing-Working in Different States

When you were going to school to become a nurse you were probably told several times that each individual state requires its very own license in order for an individual to practice medicine. You are probably already licensed to nurse in the state where you became accredited, that is probably the same state that you plan on working as a nurse. However if you are a travel nurse you don’t know what state you should be licensed in.

Each state has its own set of policies and laws when it comes to travel nurses. Some states have a grace period, a period of time that a nurse can work in the state without a medical license, provided they are certified nurses in some state. In some states this grace period is a mere thirty day, in other states it can be ninety days. It varies from state to state. Some states will even award a temporary nursing license for the duration of the job.

Before accepting a job, do your homework, a quick Internet search is a quick and efficient way learn what the state you are considering working in requires in the way of licensing. After reading decide if you are qualified to work in the state. If you aren’t qualified decide how big a hassle it will be to become qualified and then decide if the job is worth the hassle.

The nice thing about being a travel nurse is that you work through a travel nursing agency. The agency typically helps match jobs to your personality, provides you with a travel and housing allowance, makes sure you paychecks arrive in an orderly fashion, and makes sure you are qualified for each and every position you take.

The people who are in charge of your travel nursing agency know each individual states requirements for practicing medicine within their state lines. They know if you can work in the state for a certain amount of time without a license and they know if you have to get a license before you start working. Best of all they know the names and phone numbers of the people to contact if you aren’t yet qualified to work as a nurse in a particular state. The people who run your travel nursing agency know how to get a license for a state in and efficient and expedient fashion. They can make the whole process painless. The people who are in charge of the nursing agency should know, maybe even faster then you will what you need to accept a job.

If the agency tells you that you have to get a license in order to practice medicine in a certain state, find out how much getting the license will cost and know who pays the fee, you or your agency.

After being granted permission to work in a state find out how long you can legally practice medicine in the state. This information is especially important if you are working on a grace period. You don’t want to get arrested for practicing medicine without a license because you spent a few extra days working.

If you had to become licensed before you were allowed to practice medicine, find out how long the license is good for. This could be useful information when you decide its time to hang up your traveling shoes and become a permanent nurse.

The web is literally awash with travel websites. Search on Google for ‘discount air travel’ and you will find over 32 million websites. Try ‘cheap accommodation’ and there are over 11 million sites competing for your customer’s dollar. So how do you make a travel website rank highly on Google and the other search engines.

Broadly speaking, strategy in this space is similar to many physical world markets. You have to choose between being universal and being focused. If you want to be universal, i.e. offer a site which provides airline tickets, hotel and car rental bookings anywhere on earth you have to remember that you are up against some pretty stiff competition. The number one ranked site on Google for ‘discount air travel’ is Expedia. It has over 5 million back links as measured by www.marketleap.com. The cost of overtaking these mega sites for popular terms like ‘discount air travel’ is prohibitive. You will never get there. So if you want to be a universal site you must focus on less popular search terms. Look for variants on the popular search terms and try to rank highly against less popular terms. There are still very large numbers of searches done each day on terms like ‘discount plane tickets’ and it will be much easier to rank against this kind of term. Indeed the #1 ranked site on Google for this term isn’t even a home page: always a sign that this space is not too competitive. It also has a PageRank of only 4, which is not difficult to beat.

The focus strategy is easier to understand. Choose one market and optimize your website to rank highly only for that market. It’s not hard to beat the top-ranked players if you are searching for ‘Bed and Breakfast in Woodbridge ,Suffolk, England’ . Of course the problem here is that the value of ranking highly for this term is almost nil. You have to find the sweet spot of markets where a top-ranked position is valuable but yet the competition for this spot is not too intense. Once you have chosen your target market and its associated target keywords, the challenge is to get your site to rank highly. I do not propose in this article to go over the principles of search engine optimization, or SEO: there are innumerable articles which offer the latest thinking on this topic. However, a central part of all SEO strategies is linking: getting other sites to link to you. There is no substitute for the hard work of persuading other websites to link to yours, in return for a link from yours to them. Ideally you want to focus on a triangular link, where you link from one site and they link back to a different site ? this will make your link less suspect in the eyes of the search engines. Look for a Free Travel Links site such as this one, complete the form, put your link up to their site and they will link back to you within 24 hours. Repeat several hundred or several thousand times, wait a while and you will be pretty much assured of a high ranking on the search engines. Then sit back and count the money.

Make Your Next Trip A Boating Vacation?

boats, boating, boating vacations

If you are anything like me you probably already felt that the ways you normally try to get some much needed rest and relaxation are becoming more and more routine and hence are becoming less effective. And on the other hand there are ways to spend a holiday like for instance taking a cruise or going on an expedition to unknown territories that are simply not in the reach of everybody. But there is a kind of vacation that will satisfy your need for relaxation without costing you an arm and a leg.

Some Ideas for a Satisfying Boating Vacation

One of the great things about a boating vacation is that it provides you with the opportunity to get away from your day to day routine, away from your familiar environment, the people you normally associate with and the things you normally do.

Imagine yourself for a moment easily floating down the river, alone or with a good friend. Now think of what you can observe during that tranquil voyage: you can spot wildlife drinking at the riverbanks, and depending on the area you could see alligators or tortoises taking in some sunshine. Peacefulness, quiet and harmony are all around you. What do you think that does to your psyche, mind and soul? Have you reached Shangri-la? No, you’re just on a boating vacation.

Did you spot that fish, inquiringly coming up to the crumbs that fall into the water while you are having a bite in the shade of a lovely sugarberry tree? I bet that at that time you wouldn’t ponder over that mortgage that is soon due.

Or imagine yourself with the family on a barge. It is nearly sunset time and the entire family is sitting topside on the barges roof to watch it. All of a sudden a flock of geese land on the water in search of a resting place for the night. This magical moment may not last long but it will linger on in your memory and in your children’s. That is the magic that brings a boating vacation.

Do Not Make Any Plans

A boating vacation should be adventurous and does not need extensive planning ahead. You will need food, water and your basic safety equipment, but other than that it is best to just go with the flow? Keywords here are unconstrained spontaneity and being and feeling free to do what you want to do (all within reason of course). A boating vacation being no different in that way than any other vacation.

Why Wait any Longer?

So if there is a vessel that you had your eye on for some time now, go out there and buy it! Or ask a friend to borrow his to see if it is all that you expected. Get on that river or on that lake with your buddy, your pal or your family and enjoy the soothing calm of a boating vacation. Soon you will want nothing else.

hiking, camping, camping equipment, hiking equipment, outdoor, outdoors, outdoor adventure,

When it comes to buying outdoor gear online you could spend hours trying to find the best price on the right item. Fortunately, it is getting easier. Companies like, Altrec, Moosejaw, Campsaver, Rockcreek and Proboardshop have made finding the right piece of equipment much easier. In addition to a full line of men and women’s outdoor clothing these sites offer a vast selection of hard to find accessory items. Items like GPS navigation systems, first aid and safety equipment stoves and lanterns, outdoors food items and much more. Each of these online retailers also offers specialty items for different sports such as climbing gear, altimeters for skydiving, kayak and whitewater equipment, trekking poles, sleeping bags and tents for camping, and just about anything you can think of for the outdoor enthusiast.

For example, my wife wanted a new fleece jacket for Christmas. I went to several local sporting goods stores searching for this particular green North Face Denali fleece jacket in the right size and could not find one. After burning a tank of gas and several hours searching without success I decided to browse online. To my surprise within 20 minutes I had found the fleece I was looking for and I received a 20% discount as a first time customer. What a time saver!

As with all online shopping, only deal with reputable companies and always check the return policy. If you receive the wrong size or color you do not want to have any trouble exchanging the item. Also, check to see if there are customer reviews available so you can read the feedback of others that have made a purchase in the past.

By shopping for outdoor gear online you can finally afford to pursue that adventure you have always dreamed of. Whether it be hiking, rock climbing, skiing, or camping you can find the outdoor equipment you need to make the trip as safe and enjoyable as it is meant to be.
